An incident unfolded this morning at Sebastian River High School, where two high school students were detained following a brief lockdown, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
A staff member observed a student allowing an unauthorized visitor onto the school campus. School officials placed the campus on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The lockdown has been lifted, and the school has returned to normal operations. The investigation remains ongoing.
According to the sheriff’s office, one of the students allegedly tried to flee the scene, reaching for their waistband in the process. Both students were apprehended by school resource deputies.
At present, K9 units and deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough search of the area where the two students were located.
“The school is safe,” the sheriff’s office stated.
