Each week, during Sebastian River High School’s (SRHS) football season, we spotlight two student-athletes chosen by their coaches. For week 8, they have selected seniors Deon Collins and Everette Harris.
Deon Collins #7
Deon Collins, a senior boasting a 3.0 GPA, aspires to pursue his passion for football in college while majoring in sports management.
Standing at 5′ 9″ and weighing 150 lbs, Deon is a versatile athlete, playing as a wide receiver and a defensive back. His journey with the sport began at the tender age of 3. Amongst his cherished football memories is the exhilaration of scoring his first high school touchdown.
Discussing the bond he shares with his coaching team, Collins expressed, “My coaches are invaluable to me. Their unwavering dedication to refining my skills and ensuring I earn a college football scholarship is deeply appreciated.”
Beyond the gridiron, Deon’s interests lie in youth little league football, where his young nephew, Kaiden, showcases his talent.
Collins warmly acknowledges the unwavering support of his mother, sisters, grandparents, and uncles.
Defense Coordinator Coach Ron Freeman, shares, “Deon Collins is not just a great talent on the field; he is a kid who always has a smile on his face. He brings joy to everyone and is a blessing.”
His teammate, Rox Reiman, describes Deon as a quick learner with a positive attitude. He is an all-around great teammate be around.
Everette Harris #17
Everette Harris, a 6’2″, 170 lb senior, has been showcasing his skills as a wide receiver and defensive end since his freshman year.
Post-graduation, Everette has ambitious plans. He’s set on expanding his business, “All County Lithium Services LLC,” while pursuing a certification as a lithium battery technician from Eagle Eye University.
Everette holds deep gratitude for his coaching staff and family.
“I appreciate all the help the defensive coaches have given me, working with me to get me playing time. I appreciate Coach Perry’s encouragement, whether we win or lose or have a good day or bad.
I also appreciate the facilities coach who gives me a word of encouragement every day.”
Outside the world of football, Everette indulges in activities like upgrading his golf cart, hitting the gym, tinkering with motors, and unwinding in his jacuzzi.
Everette wanted to give a special mention to his parents, siblings, and his lady friend for supporting him throughout my best season junior year.
“A heartfelt thank you to my mom for not only allowing me to play my favorite sport and giving me what I need to be successful in football and supporting me in my times of injury and needs, Everette told Sebastian Daily.
Special Teams Coordinator Coach Wayne Snow praised Everette as a hard-working and respectful young man who works hard on and off the field.
Teammate Patrick Hamilton observes, “Everett is quiet but plays a good role on the D-line. He always shows up ready to work/play and always gives his all.”
Week 8 – Game
SRHS will have its Homecoming game on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. against Palm Bay High School.
