A search and rescue operation is underway for a small plane that vanished north of Grand Bahama Island on Sunday morning. The aircraft departed from Sebastian, Florida.
The U.S. Coast Guard is collaborating with the Royal Bahamian Military in the search for the “possibly downed aircraft.”
The plane, carrying a single male pilot, departed from Sebastian Municipal Airport around 9 a.m. and was last tracked north of Grand Bahama shortly before 11 a.m.
Authorities have confirmed that attempts to contact the pilot have been unsuccessful.
The missing aircraft is described as a white, red, and blue two-seater. Its intended destination was Marsh Harbour, Abaco.
The Coast Guard and Bahamian authorities have deployed resources to the area in hopes of locating the missing pilot and aircraft.
Marsh Harbour is located on the island of Great Abaco in The Bahamas. It’s the commercial center of the Abacos and is known for its beautiful beaches, diverse marine life, and vibrant local culture.
