At 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a Brightline train collision with a pedestrian at the 8th Street railroad crossing, located between US Highway 1 and Old Dixie Highway.
The pedestrian, an adult male, was severely injured and transported to a trauma center via helicopter.
Deputies and railroad officials are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
As of this time, there are no road closures in the area.
About two weeks ago, a 40-year-old woman sustained a severe arm injury after being struck by a Brightline train at the 12th Street railroad crossing in Vero Beach. This incident follows a fatal accident last month, where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Brightline train near the same location and pronounced dead at the scene.
