A school bus overturned near the Sebastian Elementary School Thursday afternoon. A total of 17 children and 1 adult were onboard.
Three children and a driver of a tractor-trailer for Sysco foods were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The children were attending summer camp with Storm Grove Middle School.
The crash occurred in the 200 block of westbound CR 512.
“Children were present on the bus. Parents are asked to meet at Church of the Cross on South Wimbrow,” Sebastian Police Captain Timothy Wood told Sebastian Daily.
Three witnesses said the bumper of a Sysco food truck clipped the bus before overturning on CR-512 (Sebastian Blvd). The truck allegedly was making a wide turn when it clipped the bus, causing the bus to drive into the grass before rolling over.
Some witnesses said the bus driver stayed on the bus and made sure all kids were off to safety.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
