VERO BEACH – A Sebastian man was arrested for DUI after he drove his pickup truck into a ditch in Vero Beach after drinking at a friend’s house.
Deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene near 61st Street and observed three men sitting on the ditch line looking at a pickup truck that was turned over on its roof.
As deputies spoke with the three men involved in the crash, they could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from their breath.
Two of the passengers, Dean Dinatale and Jamie Samuelson, said Joshua Schlabach, 41, was the driver of the pickup truck.
All three men told deputies that they drank several alcoholic beverages. They then went to a friend’s house where they continued to drink alcohol.
When they left the friend’s house, Schlabach drove the pickup since the other two men felt they were very impaired.
Schlabach had trouble standing while talking to deputies and stumbled a number of times, according to the report. At one point, he fell over face first into the soft dirt portion of the road.
As the tow company arrived to pull Schlabach’s truck from the ditch, he asked, “Is that my truck? I don’t even remember what happened! I am so fu—- up!”
Schlabach was arrested for DUI and taken to the hospital to get medically cleared prior to jail.
While at the hospital, they had to drain Schlabach’s bladder to obtain a urine sample. The entire contents of Schlabach’s bladder yielded 2 liters of fluids.
