The Florida Department of Transportation has announced partial lane closures on US-1 in the Sebastian area to accommodate sidewalk construction work.
The affected segment extends from Harrison Street (near Riverview Park) to Davis Street, (near Tire Kingdom).
Starting Monday, Nov. 6, and continuing through Thursday, Nov. 9, travelers can expect intermittent closures of one southbound lane on US-1. These closures will occur between 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to support the sidewalk and grading operations.
According to Samantha Kayser, the Community Outreach Specialist for the FDOT’s Treasure Coast Construction projects, the work occurring for approximately 1.472 miles involves a variety of improvements. These upgrades include milling and resurfacing the road, replacing and connecting sidewalks for improved pedestrian flow, demolishing unused driveways, enhancing pedestrian curb ramps in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, and improving pedestrian signaling and illumination at crosswalks with traffic signals. The project also encompasses enhancements to drainage systems, signage, and pavement markings.
In a related traffic update, the railroad crossing at Barber Street is scheduled to be closed from Nov. 12 to 16. Further information regarding this closure will be provided in a subsequent article.
Sebastian Daily will keep residents informed of this and other traffic advisories.
