This week in Sebastian, Florida, has been gloomy, and the weather is expected to remain the same into next week.
A cold front arrived earlier this morning, causing scattered showers and windy conditions. A more powerful low-pressure system developing along the northern Gulf Coast is set to bring a stronger cold front to Florida on Saturday.
This front might linger to our south, leading to more showers on Sunday. Boating conditions are expected to deteriorate from poor to hazardous with each passing front. The front arriving on Saturday could also bring intense, gusty lightning storms moving offshore.
Beaches are under a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents. Beachgoers are advised to swim near lifeguards and never alone.
Here’s a look at the daily temperatures:
- Thursday: 68/56
- Friday: 74/65
- Saturday: 79/60
- Sunday: 69/58
- Monday: 74/67
- Tuesday: 82/58
Additionally, a northerly wind blowing at 15 to 20 mph is creating a southward flowing longshore current along the beaches. This current moves parallel to the shore and can drag swimmers into deep waters. It’s advised not to swim against these currents.
Boating conditions are also hazardous, especially for small crafts, due to wind speeds of 20 to 25 knots offshore and around 20 knots near the shore, with stronger gusts. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all marine areas into the afternoon. While winds are expected to lessen tonight, seas will build up to 6 feet offshore this afternoon and into the night.
Sebastian fishing has been favorable this week, but be sure to monitor weather conditions if you’re considering heading out. Boating may not be advisable. However, the Sebastian Inlet is active with various fish, including flounder, pompano, black drum, sheepshead, whiting, black margates, and Spanish mackerel.
