The National Hurricane Center has upgraded a tropical storm to Hurricane Isaias; it will pass Sebastian this weekend.
“Strengthening is expected during the next 24-36 hours, and Isaias is now forecast to become a hurricane. After that time, there are mixed signals regarding the amount of southwesterly vertical wind shear, and the models generally do not show much additional Strengthening. Therefore, the NHC intensity forecast shows a leveling off in intensity after 48 hours,” the NHC said in a statement.
It still needs to be stressed that there is a higher than usual amount of uncertainty in the intensity forecast.
In Sebastian, this change may not make much of a difference other than higher wind gusts of over 74 mph as Hurricane Isaias passes. We want to remind everyone that most of the hurricane-force winds are expected to be offshore as the storm passes Florida.
Hurricane Isaias is expected to pass near Sebastian on Sunday morning.
It’s essential to prepare for this hurricane by Friday. Please remove all outdoor objects, such as tables, chairs, and plants.
Sebastian Daily will continue to report on the storm as information is released from the National Hurricane Center.
