During our Sebastian news video last Friday, we talked about one tropical system that reminded us of Dorian because it was supposed to dissipate.
This morning we see that the system is now Tropical Storm Karen. There are tropical storm warnings in Puerto Rico at this time. The tropical storm has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph with higher gusts.
Karen will move north before taking a sharp turn to the west by Thursday.
Most of the spaghetti models from various ensembles show Karen making a western turn later this week towards the coast.
However, there is still plenty of time for Karen to change direction again. There is also a lot of dry air in the Atlantic right now, causing Karen to remain as a tropical storm. The dry air is hindering hurricane development and organization, according to the National Hurricane Center.
There’s no need to worry about this storm right now because it’s nowhere near Sebastian or Florida. We are monitoring Karen and will update you on any new information.
